Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic Therapy and Weight Bearing Exercise is another treatment protocol for Crest physical therapy patients. due to the near gravity free benefits of the Atlantic Club pool. Physical stress is reduced, flexibility and motor function increase, relaxation is enhanced and recovery is more timely and complete. Chest deep or shallow water resistance therapy takes advantage of the natural buoyancy of water. This allows patients to rehabilitate without the compressive loading forces associated with weight bearing, land exercises.
An important element is our one on one, hands on treatment.
Crest Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitation is designed for patients in pain and those weakened by injury or disability. It addresses the following conditions
- Arthritis
- Back & Neck Pain
- Bone density optimization
- Fibromyalgia
- Total Hip/Knee/Joint Replacement
- Orthopedic Dysfunction
- Limited weight-bearing capacity
- Pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain
- Sports Injuries
- Walking or Balance issues
Jimmy Smith, Director of Crest Physical Therapy comments that "a weight-bearing, water based exercise program is critical for people with arthritis, asthma, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and more"
Debra Keating, MPT, MBAadds that "aquatic therapy speeds up the patient recovery time." The advantages of water based exercise allow for:
- Greater range of motion with reduced pain
- Building and retaining bone mass
- Faster healing and rehabilitation
- Reduced swelling through the compressive properties of water
- Improved aerobic and cardiovascular development
- Continued attention to physical fitness during the rehabilitative process
